Preview & settings

Read the hologram, reveal individual layers and keep placement clear.

Load a schematic, then press V to open Schematic Settings. Adjust Preview opacity, switch between all layers and a single visible layer, toggle In-world editing, or use Clear preview.

A layer cut opens the faces you need to see inside a build. Opacity changes the preview rather than the actual blocks in the world.

Marker Meaning
Transparent block models The transformed schematic, including fluids and supported block entities and decorations.
Cyan markers Deliberately invisible light, barrier or structure-void blocks.
Pink location outlines Unsupported model or saved render data. Read the associated diagnostic.
Bounds, face, axis and plane The area and direction affected by your active positioning tool.

Hidden faces are removed using native neighbor and shape checks, including across section boundaries. Geometry is cached by section. If visible detail exceeds the preview budget, nearby geometry remains stable and a separate message suggests moving closer or selecting a layer.

There is no fixed million-block limit. Whether a file fits depends on its palette, saved data, occupied sections and your available memory. See Server limits & large files.

Use the same opacity and layer controls when running shader packs. Increase opacity if the preview is difficult to distinguish against the pack’s lighting.

The 0.2.0 menu default is V, avoiding Iris’s K shader-toggle binding. If an older saved keymap still binds Schematics / Settings to K, rebind it in Minecraft Controls. Pressing a conflicting menu key can change shader state as well as opening the menu.

See Shader compatibility for compatible Iris/Sodium and Oculus/Embeddium versions, supported packs and OptiFine’s compatibility status.

Preview block entities stay detached: they do not attach to or tick your live world. A preview is a guide; Creative paste or a paid Survival job performs the actual building on the server.
