Controls & positioning

Place, move, rotate and mirror the preview directly in the world.

Input What it does
V Opens the file library with no preview, or Settings with a loaded preview.
G Cycles Position → Move → Height → Rotate → Mirror.
Hold G + wheel Cycles the preview tools.
Ctrl + wheel Steps the active tool.
↑ / ↓ Positive / negative step for the active tool.
Shift + use Bypasses the preview tool for normal interaction.

These are defaults. Minecraft’s Options → Controls → Key Binds lets you rebind Schematics / Settings, the tool key and both step keys. The preview HUD shows the current binding and selected tool.

Tool Where to aim Action
Position A real world block surface Right-click to anchor beside the surface.
Move A horizontal face of the preview bounds Step along that face’s normal with Ctrl + wheel or the step keys.
Height Keep the preview visible Step vertically.
Rotate Use the shown rotation axis Step in 90° increments.
Mirror A horizontal face of the preview bounds Right-click that face, or use a step control, to mirror.

The origin, bounding box, movement face, rotation axis and mirror plane show what your next gesture will affect. Positioning and transformations happen in the world rather than as coordinate buttons in Settings.

Hold Shift while using a block when you want ordinary interaction through the preview. You can also turn off In-world editing in Settings while keeping the preview visible.

Position, orientation, visible layer and import choices are saved per world or server, dimension and source fingerprint. A modified source file requires new import choices. A started Survival job retains its original placement even if you move the current preview.
